Covid has introduced a fashionable argument that there is no such thing as a virus. This includes flu and covid viruses. This view stems from the following terms. There are two main types of intracellular parasites, facultative and obligiate. Facultative intracellular parasites are capable of living and reproducing in or outside of host cells. Viruses are obligiate parasites. Obligiate intracellular parasites, on the other hand, need a host cell to live and reproduce. People have offered the viruses aren’t real argument to me as proof of the covid pandemic being a hoax.
Yet, the covid virus does exist as a subset of the obligiate parasite family. It, and other viruses, are either largely or totally inanimate. When people tell me covid is really a parasite they are correct. The argument that an inanimate object can’t cause illness is incorrect. These are wordplay arguments. A similar argument would be that oranges do not exist because they are a subset of the fruit family. The pieces of the argument are similar for the virus and the orange. Yet, no one makes the argument that oranges do not exist. Why is this? It is because we are much more familiar with the world of fruits than we are with the world of parasites.
Viruses, including flu and covid, are obligiate parasites and inanimate. But, they are not predators waiting to pounce on us. Over 200 different flu viruses can contribute to symptoms identical to those attributed to influenza A, or some forms of covid. This brings into question whether vaccination can equate to true immunity? Immunity assumes it worked! If it worked, then not vaccinated is anti-immunity. The reality of immunity is that it is a process of creating a healthy microbiome in the body. A vaccine in an unhealthy microbiome cannot confer immunity. Only by consuming clean air, food, water, sunlight and emotional balance can we achieve immunity. Vaccines are a contrived medical procedure with very real toxic effects, without producing real immunity. They do not improve the microbiome. Their benefits are theoretical. Have you noticed how many vaccinated folks get sick? Do immune people get sick?
To know why we can get ill when exposed to a virus look at the virus composition. Viruses do not produce energy and can’t be transmitted without a living host because they are inanimate objects. They can’t infect anything on their own. Virions are transportation particles that allow viral nucleic acids, RNA and DNA, (read virus) to infect living organisms (read us) that become the host. Without producing virions viruses are harmless, not infectious. This creates a question of whether we should fight virus with vaccination or control the non-virus components of the microbiome that encourage virion production. It is the proteins, lipids and other particles in the microbiome that give the virus its ability to cause illness. Simply put, do we fight the virus or improve the human microbiome? The latter is true immunity.
There is great complexity and variability in virus and virion composition, and it has not yet been studied adequately. Pleomorphism is the ability of microorganisms to alter their form and function in response to environmental conditions. This is a mini definition of epigenetics. The environment shapes, and indeed turns on or off, the expression of the gene/DNA/RNA that is the virus. In this scenario the flu or covid virus is in equal part material from the virus and its host.
The preceding creates confusion. It serves no healthy purpose to view the influenza or covid virus as something totally outside of us. The influenza virus uses particles found in the host to produce virions, then to produce human immunological responses. This points out another problem with vaccinations that produce an antigen. The vaccine particle that triggers an immune response in the body is produced from insects and chicken eggs. These foreign proteins produce different unpredictable responses than human influenza viral particles. Will humans react differently to insect proteins than they do to human proteins? These possible cross reactions are not tested. The flu vaccine is a crapshoot in this respect.
Immunity is, or should be, an effort by an organism to adapt, self-regulate, heal and ultimately improve. From that perspective, a virus is an opportunity, even when the influencer is an influenza or covid virus. Even the “infectious” agents like measles that are labeled as dangerous and harmful carry the possibility of enhancing health. The healthier the microbiome, the greater the possibility of acquiring significant health benefits from a virus that invades the body.
When we embrace the theory of the host-dependent nature of the influenza or covid virus’ virion composition, then we breakdown the paradigm of germs as enemy combatants. We can come to terms with the nature of our microbiome composition. Hundreds of types of viruses serve a fundamental role in the microbiome, in our health. Some viruses are our friends, perhaps they all are.
