Wasn’t planning to post today but the day turned out to be more interesting than I expected. We had not noticed the nativity scene in the middle of the parroquia until this morning when we went for a walk. It is the finest nativity scene I have ever seen, but keep in mind I might be a heathen with very little experience in such things.
I was surprised how many people were out and about. I had heard that after Christmas eve, the city was almost shut down for a day. Turns out this is not reality. Even so, the streets felt calm and nearly deserted compared to any other day. The proportion of tourist to residents had definitely tilted toward tourist, and many shops and every coffee shop appear to be open. There was a calm in the air today, enveloping us, slowing us down and helping us to see more (we pretty much always feel calm and slowed down). An odd thing was how large a police presence there was in the center of town, not that they did anything but mill around. Note, police here always look as though they are prepared for an attack, more like SWAT team than downtown patrol. Also, there always seems to be about a 50/50 ratio of women to men on the force.
I think we walked less today than any day since we came to Mexico. It felt great to sit around in the sun with a glass of wine then prepare the oddest Christmas dinner of my life. We made a tomatillo based sauce with homemade pineapple curry, Italian sausage. peppers, almonds, tomatoes, Italian spices, onions and garlic. It was served over thin sliced potatoes fried in the fat from the sausage. Like nothing I have ever had but delicious. Had a southern Italian wine with dinner and topped it off with homemade brownies.
All in all a fine day.

The food sounded yummy, and the police presence , must have been to the peace over people wanting to taste your delicious dinner and wine.
Going slow is good sometimes to do, no need to rush just enjoy the day as it unfolds
