Woke up today with a belly that felt in decent shape, but not quite right. After about an hour I realized I better take some more of the Montezuma’s Revenge antidote from the pharmacy. Soon I was ready to go on a walk. It was about 9:30am and much to our surprise there was a wonderful cool breeze. By the time we got back home it was hot. We got a couple of tacos from the Sunday Market across the street, went home and ate them. I was pleased I was able to eat the taco. After our lunch we took it easy for a while. I worked on Sheila’s hip, then studied Spanish while she laid down to rest. While we were walking I took a picture of what might be the only Beavis and Butthead mural in Mexico. Also, when I published I saw thta the featured image got cut in half, so it is below also.
We had time to kill because our major objective for the day was to go to a 4pm concert at the Curtidores restaurant. Geckos are our favorite band here, by far. I wrote them up on an earlier blog post. We were there early to get a comfortable table. The space began to fill up and it was great to see previous acquaintances. Geckos are a 5 piece band of 40 and 60 year olds. They have a lot of roots in 50’s-80’s music, a lot of variety also. But for all of the variety they have a style and make songs uniquely theirs. Even the songs I think of as ballads are hard edged and many have strong blues influences. They have a great rock guitarist and bassist who rise to the challenge of every song. The male vocalist is powerful and the female vocalist is a great complement to their sound. The drummer is our doctor and the organ player can play acoustic guitar when needed and sang vocals on a couple of songs, including I Put a Spell On You. He also sang some of Killing Me Softly in the warm up, sang it well, totally amazing for a 60 year old Mexican man. We bonded over Led Zeppelin.
In case you can’t tell I am a music lover, the kind who danced with reckless abandon the great guitar bands of the 60’s and 70′, then the late 70’s transition from punk to new wave, once again to the ethereal sounds of the late 80’s into the 90’s that became the dance music scene of the new century. Every era eventually captured me, heart body and soul. Dancing is a wonderful artistic expression. The band played 2 sets and in the second set songs like Heart of Glass, Hoochie Koochie Man, Psycho Killer, You Really Got Me and the encore of I Saw Her Standing There had me on my feet. And that’s from a guy who doesn’t even care all that much for the Beatles. As the set went on more and more people danced. At the end it was probably 2/3 dancers . Felt real good to see that kind of abandon.
I do not know why, but something compelled me to write the entire song list. Moon Dance, Spooky, Long Train Running, Amy Winehouse ?, Unchain My Heart, These Boots are Made for Walking, Midnight Rider, Stop Dragging My Heart Around, I Put a Spell On You. Set 2: La Grange, Heart of Glass, Landslide, Hoochie Koochie Man, Sweet Child of Mine, Blue Bayou, Psycho Killer, You Really got Me, and for the Encore, I Saw You Standing There. See the point about diversity? As different as these songs are, the band creates a homogenous rocking consistency.
When we got home I topped off thee night by making a brownie/cookie. Not sure what to call it because we don’t have proper baking utensils and we had not baking powder or soda. Then end result thought was a skinny dense cacao rich confection, not very sweet, that made me happy.
I leave you with a picture of a van I photographed today.

Love the song list!!!! What a Great band!!!
Thanks for the encouragement in this time of unfathonmable governing idiocy. Thank god for things like music. It was amazing last night how the enrgy of sound got strangers hanging out talking afterwards. Personally I have struggled with a knee for about six months. It goes through some dark periods, and the last two weeks have been dark = bad sleep. Last night after shaking a leg quite a bit I SLEPT. weirdest thing is I remember several knee dreams. In one of them a honey drip was injected into what looked like two automotive valves in my knee. What would Cayce say about that?
I know you will land on your feet as you always do but Crystal Wolf concerns me. ?????
Great message on the van, and what a list of songs, sounds like fun evening with you dancing to the rhythm of your soul, go for it. Just reading your adventures makes my day
😊👍♥️🤗😃🌹🤗
You are right, fun evening and the dancing seemed to have helped my balky knee. Maybe its what the hip needs? How is the hip?
