All About the Art: Guadalupe and its Murals

December 18, 2024 By Dr. Pat Dougherty 2 Comments

There is an area a bit north of the centro district in San Miguel de Allende known as Colonia Guadalupe. In Mexico neighborhoods are called colonias. This blog entry is a pictorial walk through Guadalupe. Not all the pictures were gifted with great light, but I hope you still can enjoy.

Guadalupe has made an effort to encourage and at times even sponsor murals on its walls. This is urban art at its finest and is the identity of this Colonia.

Not sure exactly when this started, but a long wall on Canción India Street was painted by urban artists, 15 murals. Then neighbors noticed the quality of the works and began to offer their walls to the artists. Today there are reportedly more than 50 High quality murals in Colonia Guadalupe.

Colonia Guadalupe, a popular San Miguel neighborhood located near the downtown area, welcomes visitors and locals alike who leave in awe as they stroll through its colorful streets.
