9:19 pm. I am sitting in a chair reading The Stranger In the Lifeboat by Mitch Albom. We are on the ground floor, tile over concrete. I feel the floor push up into my feet, twice. Another few seconds and then I feel, and believe I see, a ripple across the floor to my left. Then it is over. 5.4 magnitude earthquake. Larger than normal, but not unusual for Oaxaca. Ever since the 1989 San Francisco earthquake, 6.9 magnitude, tremors I feel have had a calming effect on me. Many years now since I last felt an earthquake and I am anxious to see if I sleep well with soothing dreams.

Wow, an earthquake that shook you up, so the Earth adjusted itself, and you are made aware of it. Go with flow.
Since ’89 in San Francisco I have felt a great affinity for earthquakes. I like you description of of it. About a third of the way through your book. It’s comprehensiveness is quite spectacular. Also Meg’s intro blew me away. 2 typos so far. Line 498 in some Vietnamese villages is repeated and Line 1321 the sentence needs a “we”.
