It’s All About the Food: Churches

May 27, 2025 By Dr. Pat Dougherty 3 Comments

It’s nice to have time on your hands. We went food shopping this morning. We didn’t have a list, and we didn’t go to a supermarket. We started at a small Lebanese Market, went to the butcher, on to a little grocery store we know carries good inexpensive wines and ended up at the chocolatier. All of them are independently owned and any of them can be reached with a 3-5 minute walk from our apartment. For me it is simply more fun to shop this way.

My favorite is the chocolatier. They import cacao beans from around the world and make all of their own product. We know this because when I questioned them the first time we went in, they gave us a tour through the contents of their seemingly small storefront shop. They walked us through every step of the process of making their chocolates showing us the machines in action.

Following is what we brought home in exchange for about 19 euros, and a picture of the bag from the chocolatier which she insisted we take.

Just a small post today. The rest of this is some old church pictures. The doors were not open to this initial church.

I failed to find the name of this second church.

And, the final of the three churches I photographed.

Are you enjoying France over Mexico? Looks so beautiful and I assume most people can speak some English when shopping for groceries?

Good question Calli. Everything, almost, has been quite enjoyable. northern France was just OK. Here in the south in Nimes is great, however. Nimes might not be where I would live, but it sure is a great city to visit. The big bonus is how incredibly good the 4-7+ euro red wines are. I am surprised and happy how many people are willing to struggle with my very limited French and their limited English. And there are a fair amount of people who are decent English speakers. Good to hear from you.

I love going in those old cathedrals, the architecture is something else!
The graveyards are fascinating too…..old, falling over stones. Thinking of the history and lives that the people were experiencing.
