Beaune!

June 11, 2025 By Dr. Pat Dougherty 5 Comments

I have looked forward to being in Beaune France since I added it to the itinerary a week ago. I noted previously that I am a wine drinker and a Pinot Noir lover. Beaune is in the Burgundy region and Burgundy is the premier Pinot Noir region in the world. After only 4 hours in the city, we found ourselves in a 17th century wine cave for education that included tastings.

I assume there will be a few more similar experiences in the next 3 days. Beyond that though, it is great to be in a smaller city that is not crowded but has enough people in the old part of the city to feel like something’s happening. I also like that buildings are shorter here. They do not have the metropolitan feel of everywhere else in France we have been. But the buildings do have the ancient town charm. In sum, I feel very comfortable and happy here.

yes, a place to come and DRINK it all in. We are here until Saturday, that’s it, but will do at least one tour a day like yesterday’s. The philosophy on wine here is so different. The thought is let the whether and the earth dictate what you do once the grapes ripen. No mixing with other varietals, not even irrigation. No chemicals. They often do not even believe in good and bad years, just different opportunities for decision making. The wines we tasted yesterday had a clean purity. I do believe you and Scott would love it here.

I love that you are there so many years after our 1st visit. Fond memories of the town and the wine. Enjoy every last second – even all those stairs at your accommodations – after a few sips (or More) of wine.

Tell us how the wine and fun is unfolding in this adventure, show us pictures of the environment the buildings, the people and if there is music, dancing and merriment

Okay more picture of the cellar and tasting experience today when we go to the Drouhin cellars. Not much music dancing and merriment just a lot of people sitting in the cafes etc enjoying each other and life.
